Mark Bird Stafford

In discovering Michael Pickett, I stumbled across a handful of awesome Toronto Blues harp players.  Here’s a guy named Mark Bird Stafford.  His tone is clean and concise and his mix of the harp with vocals is like hearing two vocalists sing a song together.  I love his hand technique and his warbles.  Great vibrato and strong note enunciation make his playing a delight to hear.  Have a listen for yourself and enjoy!

  1. Mel Brown’s birthday party in Kitchener, I’m guessing around 2006 (by the head of hair I had)? Filmed by Mako Funasaka of Talkin Blues (more interesting stuff on his site). Leo Valdasori – Bass, Sean Kellerman – Guitar, Mike McDonald – Guitar, Jimmy Boudreau – Drums. A fun night and a great vid of Sonny Boy Williamson II’s Bring It On Home. I choose the tune because it had organ and Mel was behind the B3 that night as he played guitar, harmonica and more. Rest In Peace Mel, we were lucky here in Ontario Canada to have you around us. Mel’s (and many other great recordings) can be found through a very cool Canadian Label – Electro Fi Records. Thanks for the positive comments! Mark Stafford.

    • Thanks for the details! Great recording and awesome musicians you’re playing with. I’ve been looking at music from Talkin Blues… in fact, that’s where I came across you! I’ll be sure to check out Electro Fi Records.
