First off, if you’d like to drop me an email, my address is harmonicaloveaffair@gmail.com. Now, with that out of the way…
In 2007, I discovered my great-grandfather’s worn old tremolo harmonica in a cedar chest under my grandmother’s bed and thought it would be pretty cool to learn to play. So I began taking evening walks through the neighborhoods of San Diego attempting to play church hymns and songs I learned from YouTube. A longtime student of music, I took to it with ease, if not with grace. A few years of constant playing with varying degrees of success have brought me to a skill level I am quite pleased with. Recently, I lived in Vancouver, BC for three years where I became something of a local celebrity for my evening harmonica walks. Now I’m making a new name for myself in Toronto, walking the East end and enjoying the subway stations’ acoustics. People smile, couples embrace and children dance wherever I go. I am no professional but I identify deeply as a harmonica player and find it has become a part of my soul and one of the most prominent aspects of my character. I am one of the lucky ones who can carry a concert in his pocket. I have been given a gift and I find great joy in sharing it with the world.
This was the first song I learned and my first harmonica video. I’ve come a long way since then…
