John Sebastian and Annie Raines

This morning I came across this fantastic little duet called “Orange Dude Blues”, played by John Sebastian (of The Lovin’ Spoonful and Woodstock fame) and Annie Raines (of Paul Rishell & Annie Raines fame).  Each of them are using two harmonicas – while one plays a low supportive harmonica, the other plays the melody an octave higher, then they switch.  I love the sweet, dulcet tones they get from those low harps and I find it particularly fascinating when a harp player switches between two harps in a song.  Sometimes I do this in order to change keys, but I’ve never done this to change octaves!  I can see that I’m going to be buying a low-low-something very soon!  Have a listen and then satisfy your curiosity by checking out one of these low-low harmonicas by Hohner or Seydel.  One of those is definitely next on my list!
