Howard Levy Channeled Through a Puppet

Today I came across an exhilarating piece by harmonica master, Howard Levy… sort of.  The video, actually, is a puppet named Scat Dog “covering” one of Levy’s performances on Garrison Keillor’s radio show, A Prairie Home Companion.  (If anyone knows the exact date of this recording, I’d be interested to hear from you.)  Now, I’ve seen puppets rock out on instruments before, but Scat Dog absolutely nail it on the harmonica!  His control over the half pitches of a diatonic harmonica make the instrument sound more like a chromatic and his flow up and down the harmonic minor scale makes your soul smile.  I love harmonic minor Gypsy jazz tunes and I love Howard Levy’s playing even more, so this find was a real treat for me.  Have a listen and enjoy!
